Dutch Cultural Evening
Deep Talk with SFERA
Yesterday, the second Deep Talk took place in the УЛАФ СТЕ cafe. This is a biweekly event hosted by two 18-year-old Dutch volunteers, and it provides participants with an opportunity to open-endedly join in on a conversation about a deeper topic, gain insights, and practice speaking English.
Topics for Deep Talk
Last time, we discussed the topic of first impressions. This week, we were happy to see some familiar faces from people who joined us two weeks ago, as well as some new participants. Once everyone was gathered, everyone introduced themselves, and we told them about this week’s topic: life goals. Because this might not be an easy thing to talk about, we first all took 5 minutes to think about what our own life goals might be. Then we started with the questions. The way we organize the Deep Talks is that before the event, we fill a jar with questions written on small pieces of paper. Then we can pass the jar around so everyone takes out a question, reads it out loud, and then tries to answer it. Anyone who has something to add or ask may always jump in. This way, we shape the conversation and allow everyone to have input in the discussion. For the topic of life goals, we had questions like, “How important are goals to you?” “What is holding you back?” “How do life goals and the meaning of life relate?” and many more. After about an hour of talking, we felt satisfied with our conversation and rounded it off. Having gained some new ideas and views, we look back on a great event. Thanks to all the participants!
The next one is on November 4!
