For the good times
Furkan KALIT EVS Second Month in Macedonia ( February 2018 )
My EVS journey dates back to October 2018, when I started my short-term in SFERA. I stayed for two months—from the beginning, it seemed like quite enough time, but when the EVS was slowly coming to an end, I just wished I could stay longer. And all of a sudden the offer from Milcho arrived: “Would you like to come for the long term?” We have one project approved, and someone dropped out. “I had to take a few days to think about it, and then I said yes.” So here I am again!
My current project is on the topic of raising awareness about recycling and upcycling among pupils in elementary schools, as well as doing workshops for the active citizens of Bitola. So far, I’ve done two workshops with a colleague of mine in a local elementary school with pupils aged 12 and 13, and it was simply an enjoyable experience! We are currently planning more and more activities to be done. For me, it’s a brand new experience to work with a large group of kids, and I enjoy it to the fullest. My head is full of ideas about what activities to do; I’m searching for different DIY methods, and I’m thinking about some sustainable mini-projects.
Apart from that, I would like to do some movie nights on the ecological topic and raise more awareness about the consequences of littering.
With the help of my colleagues, I’m going to organize the swap event once again. For the first time, it was really successful, and we all hope that the second edition will be even more successful!
Moreover, I’m looking forward to discovering more towns and areas than previously. I have already visited Ohrid, and it was just breathtaking. And the weather—that was just the cherry on top. In mid-February, I felt like it was late April. I had a fantastic weekend and hope to return in the coming weeks.
I’ll be back soon with more stories to tell from my Macedonian life.
