Preparation Meeting for Youth Exchanges in Malaga, Spain
January 12, 2018
“The Citizens Are United” Kick Off
January 23, 2018
Members of SFERA, together with local and EVS volunteers, gathered Saturday evening, January 13th, on the Orthodox New Year Eve to celebrate the incoming year, according to the Julian calendar. The beginning of the gathering was marked by the important moment of cutting the maznik with the coin inside. For our EVS volunteers, from Romania and Turkey, this was a great opportunity to observe the tradition of finding the coin inside the pie, which symbolizes the good luck that the person finding it would have this following year. Once bellies were full with the delicious pie, everyone moved on to having fun with the next tradition of gambling with dices and enjoying each other’s company.
SFERA celebrated with its friends and collaborators as it traditionally happens on this day. The event was a chance for everyone to reflect on the year just ending and think about meaningful resolutions, while preparing to welcome the new year.
