Creativity is not just an economic engine or one of the 3 most desired skill by employers, but also a way to tackle social, political and cultural challenges and initiate changes.
Our YE START WORKS was created because we have noticed this particular learning gap in young unemployed people in the field of the skills and knowledge in the field of self-presentation, communication, formalities like CV or cover letters or how to even find a job and other beneficial opportunities like for instance volunteering. The formal school systems in our countries usually don’t involve those practical skills into the curricula. In addition, we have noticed, that the philosophy of volunteering is still not wide-spread among youngsters as well.

As today we are all aware that economic crisis is over and that today there is a lot of job opportunities on the job market and a lot of vacancies but now we are dealing with another problem, young people who should be involved in the job market are not well prepared for it. They finished their schools and universities in which they gain the knowledge, only of them also the skills, needed in specific field, but noon of them got knowledge and skills which are needed to be actively involved in the job market. While in countries which are involved in this project young people are getting a lot of theoretical knowledge through formal education, there is lack of practical skills which young people need, especially young people who are going to apply for the first job after the formal education and especially young people with fewer opportunities for who is even harder to involve themselves in the job market and start to look for a job. Besides all this formal knowledge, we encountered a problem which is that young people don’t know how to apply for the job, how to present themselves to future employers, how to assess their key competences and write cv and a motivation letter. This is knowledge which is needed in today society and which is not provided to young people in all the countries which are involved in this project.
The project is designed as a process of non-formal learning and peer education using participants’ own experiences in the fields of ECS, youth work and international cooperation.

The project is a follow up to the project Religion≠Hate youth exchange on the relationship between religion and LGBTQ rights. During the implementation of this project we realized how difficult it is to find youth workers who can support struggling LGBTQ youth. Religion can play a negative role in the lives of LGBTQ youth in three ways:
- some LGBTQ youth are also religious and they struggle to make peace between their faith and their sexuality/gender identity
- some LGBTQ youth have religious parents and family, which put strains on their relationships with those closest to them
- because of mostly negative treatment LGBTQ youth are getting from some religious organisations, some LGBTQ youth have developed deeply anti-religious sentiment which leads to them discriminating against people of faith, including LGBTQ youth of faith.
Main aim of this project is promoting equality and non-discrimination between young people. No-one is born with prejudice but rather has the potential to develop it over time. It is crucial to foster the values of equality and non-discrimination. Among children and youth, this must be done from an early age through formal and non-formal education. Non-formal education plays a key role in fostering the development of key transversal competences, the especially relevant ones being self-reflection, empathy and mutual respect.
Social media facilitates the rapid spread of ideas online. The proliferation of such platforms has created an entirely new frontier in thinking about new innovative methods to be active in a proficient way. Young people in the EU make daily use of the internet. The use of social networks and technology within young people in Europe increased in the past years until reaching an average of 6 hours per day, meaning they spend 1/4 of their day on it. Such amount of time has an impact on the brain functioning and on its development.
Mass media is a powerful force in forming our perception of reality. The recent technological developments have brought profound changes to the way we access and consume information from the various media platforms. Today, most people if not everyone connected to the Internet can post information, pictures, videos and comments which can go viral. This means that they can potentially reach millions of people around the world and influence their attitude to a given issue. The digital revolution can empower but this power comes with great responsibility. In various parts of Europe and neighboring countries young people face different challenges related to media literacy, i.e. exposure to media bias, hate speech, cyber-bullying, grassroots xenophobia propagated by media and social networks.
Aims of the course
- To increase youth workers’ skills so they can empower youth by boosting their personal development.
- To increase the competences of youth workers in the field of social entrepreneurship so they
can help youngsters channel their potential in social entrepreneurship.
The project will be implemented on the topic Violence. As known, Violence is becoming wide spread everywhere. It is not a problem of a city or country, it is a problem of the world. All the stake holders and people should take some steps. We believe that our group will handle the Violence Problem in a different point of view. We will work with the participants coming from different parts of Europe. We will share the best practices to prevent Violence. We will raise awareness in the society.
Social exclusion is a major problem of our time. Social indifference and apathy regarding different social groups and social conflicts, lack of social activity, and methods for improving the situation of socially marginalized groups represent a problem in multicultural communities of Europe. Social exclusion is often a symptom of poverty, conflict and insecurity. The successful social inclusion of marginalized group in multicultural societies of Europe depends largely on how many opportunities for social participation they are given. Members of minority groups are prone to different treatment in the countries and societies in which they live. This discrimination may be directly based on an individual’s perceived membership of a minority group, without consideration of that individual’s personal achievement. Acquiring alternative and effective instruments for dealing with these issues is necessary and represents a priority.
We are aware or we should become aware that branding and namely the video presence of our initiative is the second thing we have to build (after our website). Nowadays technology allow us to create video productions without expensive equipment. Smartphones, laptops and other low cost gadgets can offer high quality video productions.

There is no shame admitting that you don’t feel all right – physically, but also, sometimes even more importantly, mentally. We express our positive emotions but are trying to hide the negative one. Why ignore them, when our mental health is very important for our happy life? We all know the pressure in school, at work or at home. Sometimes we would just love to escape and stop thinking about the stress
constantly surrounding us. In our organization, we have realized, that it is really hard to find a way how to truly relax and let the stress to go away. Each of us is different thus there is no one recipe how to leave our minds rest. Let’s join us in the Czech Republic on our youth exchange and hopefully we can find a way how to grow our mental health together!

The main aim was to help Europe deal with its migrant crisis through a joint effort of youth organizations across Western Balkans, EU and Turkey. The forecast outcome was to give a chance to experienced professionals to exchange opinions (seminar), equipping trainers in tools and competences (Tot), giving young people from 10 countries a first-hand opportunity to learn about migration and to act in their communities, producing relevant resources (Good practice guide and toolbox), and then to use all of the project outputs to disseminate results by local events (to multiply them) and to raise awareness of migration issues in whatever aspect relevant in the 10 consortium countries (for some of them it will be freedom of movement, for others learning about migrant/refugee distinction, for others fighting discrimination or preventing trafficking), thus mainstreaming migration issues in youth work and wider society.
Life Connection introduced a whole universe of active citizenship and democratic participation. we sought to develop basic and transversal skills, such as entrepreneurship, digital competences and multilingualism, through an innovative learner-centered pedological approach and certification method. Life Connection explored rural, social issues from a green economy standpoint and tried to come up with alternative and sustainable solutions and opportunities for employment and engagement in civil society. The long-term aim was to promote a new model of society, in which the environment is conceived and experienced as part of the community universe, and not as an external element that needs to be dominated. During the exchange, the participants were encouraged to explore, highlight and compare the best practices and alternative models existing within their realities, looking beyond purely economic values.
Many organisations in the third sector are failing when it comes the time to promote or disseminate their activities. Very low budgets, voluntary work and, specially, lack of technical skills make that the contents they produce very often doesn’t make the impact it was hoped. Launching a campaign is easy, but creating an efficient, effective and professional campaign with high quality contents requires knowledge, skills and hard work. In one hand, we have this amateur social campaign and in the other exists a lot of examples of viral contents that spread a hate message along the continent. Videos, articles, memes… teaching intolerance against everyone who’s different. Unfortunately, a lot of this contents reach successfully a youth public transmitting them homophobic, xenophobic or sexist ideas. That’s why we wanted to create a “guerrilla” of skilled and motivated youth leaders able to spread efficiently their positive messages and thus fight intolerance. We created “nohate.mp4” as a learning opportunity for 24 youth workers and leaders to improve their communication skills for the benefit of their social projects.
The youth exchange “Manaakitanga” took place from 4-12 September 2016 in Jakartovice, Czech Republic. Our team, Sfera Macedonia, like one of the partner organizations helped in facilitating and organizing the exchange. In this project, like participants understood why migrations exist and that is not a new situation that we can be afraid of. Throughout the workshops we shared, discussed and built different opinions on the transition and welcoming of migrants.
SFERA Macedonia team participated in Training Course “Think Globally, Act Locally” which focused on active participation of young people in democratic and social life. It also included terms such as the value of citizens’ participation in civil society organizations and social movements, student participation in the governance of schools and universities, as well as democratic participation in the family. Unfortunately, young people’s interest in taking responsibility in society has significantly decreased and this poses a lot of threats to democratic life not only in national level but also in the wider world and European level. Society across the world needs influential youth leaders equipped with skills and good knowledge who will raise awareness on the importance of active participation. Today’s young people volunteer more than old people; they are much better educated; and they are less likely to drink excessively or use drugs than previous generations of youth but that does not seem like a recipe for this political and social apathy around the world.
During this TC, participants learned that community events can help reduce individual and family isolation, can make the place where we are living more attractive and empower social connections. One of the productive contribution was supporting community via organizing local events or implementing permanent projects. The effort of organizing events built a stronger community, this local factor contributed to the increasing culture life, made a better neighbourly relationship, raised awareness and attractiveness of the countryside. We wanted to create the space where people can share their ideas of improving life in their rural areas by organizing the local events or permanent projects helping the rural development, the TC Happy Community.

The idea for the project came from the project leader, who faced a physical disorder and has since joined the Slovenian national sitting volleyball team. She thought that youth with special needs did not have the opportunity to be engaged in local sport activities. Therefore, aimed at addressing these issues that many may be facing in different communities. Main objectives of the project were to spread the awareness about EU topics, how to involve different young people, also disadvantaged, in activities. Moreover, the project supported healthy lifestyle and wellbeing for youth by using sport and how to adapt the activities for them.
The new 2015 has begun with profound political imbalances and radical socio-economic transformations in both EU and Mediterranean countries, as the result of difficult democratic transitions, humanitarian emergencies, dramatic increases in cross border migratory flows and the tensions which derive from complex processes of socio-cultural integration, current economic crisis oppressing mainly young people in all EU countries. The ongoing social transformation processes in both EU and Mediterranean partner countries, required an increased capacity of individuals and communities to cooperate and built more just and equitable social structures in a world where interdependence is growing.
This project aim was to tackle the question of immigration as one of the most growing problems within the EU in recent period. Namely, more than 700,000 refugees have risked their lives trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe so far, this year, facing not only inhuman living conditions but also lack of understanding and help. Recent trends showed that thousands of people were attempting a perilous route through the Western Balkans with the ultimate destination in northern EU countries. Main aim of this project was to include young people with cultural obstacles, as well as young people who were interested in theatre and motivated to help refugees, into process of discussing, sharing experiences and using method of invisible theatre to tackle the problem of immigration. Participants took an active role in every phase of the youth exchange, and they were encouraged to take part in creating workshops and adapting methods that they can use in the future.

The second part of the project continued in Florina Greece from 29.08.2016 until 04.09.2016.
Trying to understand the media and its role in society is a bit like trying to capture fog in a box. The media are everywhere and are completely intertwined with our society, our politics, and our lives. Separating out the media from our own belief systems, attitudes, and perceptions is very difficult. One enduring truth about media, though, is that the greatest power of media is its ability to be anywhere in the world and beyond. As we all have become part of truly global society, we rely on the media to provide us the most vital form of currency in the world today: information. Are you “media literate”? What does it even mean? Can We believe everything in the news? They wouldn’t lie in the news, right? What is Hoax? Don’t know? Maybe you shared one. And what about propaganda? There is no such thing anymore, right? Are you interested in the questions above? Do you want to find out more? Or do you want to share your opinion?
The Underdog Project” was based on street based work experience from our organization and foreign partners. It was implemented according to the needs of youth workers who involved excluded youngsters into local societies.
During the meeting, the participants gained a number of new skills and knowledge, but also learned all the specific details among working with quadrupeds, learned how to implement “in practice” (meetings with experts, visits to the animal shelter and section of “Polish Water Security Guards”).
SFERA Macedonia team participated and led some sessions during this project in Turkey. The main aim of the project was to know how to react in violent situations, knowing their rights and how to handle problems. Through flash mobs, meeting with the local citizens, deeply conversation, workshops, we increased awareness to get the meaning of the violent especially domestic violent.
During this seminar, participants met with parliamentary from EU Parliament, The Grand National Assembly of Turkey, NGO and Private Sector Representatives. The topics of meetings focused on European Citizenship, European Democracy and Participation, International Democracy, Youth Role in formalising Democracy, European Youth and Political Participation, Responsibilities of Media, NGOs and Private Sector, and Governance.
A key objective of this project and of Erasmus + programme was to motivate and involve Roma young people in entrepreneurship. Education determines future life chances, and is crucial for finding stable and decently paid employment. Non-formal learning played a very important role in equipping Roma young people with the necessary skills for the competitive labour market. It enabled them to become entrepreneurial thinkers by immersing them in real-life learning ventures where they could take risks, managed the results, and learned from the outcomes. Entrepreneurial skills helped Roma youth adapt well to other non-entrepreneurial careers and improve their lives and communities.
We strongly believe that young people through their capacity to initiative, exploration, creativity and innovation can develop something better, suitable for previous and future generation in cities they live, in order to safe and create new modern heritage for future generations. We had chance to work with each other, during several international projects, where we realized, that we had same vision, passions and desires toward improving life of young people and their involvement in developing our cities.

Not Just Numbers is an international youth capacity-building project aimed at strengthening co-operation and developing capacity of youth organisations in dealing with migration and asylum issues in the EU and Western Balkans. The project was built on a broad needs analysis conducted by members of the project consortium in their communities and responds directly to needs and problems of their target groups – young people, notably those with fewer opportunities. The project was a way to deepen and extend local activities in the fields of migration and asylum awareness conducted by consortium members in their countries. The main problems the project responded to were: low awareness of migration regulations in the EU and South-East Europe, prejudice and discrimination against migrants and asylum seekers and negative portrayal of migrants in the EU and Western Balkan countries. The project created synergies between the fields of youth work, formal education and training, through co-operation with formal educational institutions in campaigning on migration and asylum matters. Specific objectives of the project were: to facilitate exchange of expertise on approaches to migration and asylum education in youth work, to train youth workers in using education tools developed by IOM and UNHCR (starting with the ‘Not Just Numbers’ Toolkit), to develop a youth campaign raising awareness of migration and asylum issues, to promote further trans-national learning mobility and networking between youth organisations in the EU and Western Balkans. The project programme included mobility activities (training of trainers and youth exchange) and capacity-building activities (large-scale youth event and an awareness-raising campaign). The project’s main impact was the development of capacity of partner organisations in addressing migration and asylum issues in youth work, increased skills of youth workers, raising awareness of migration and asylum rights, causes, consequences and impact among 8 young people in the EU and Western Balkans, and increased co-operation of youth organisations in the EU and WB on migration and asylum matters. The project’s outputs included a good practice guide and awareness campaign and disseminated at two levels: locally by consortium members and Europe-wide by the project communications team. Dissemination measures were local events involving young people, youth workers and other relevant stakeholders, in co-operation with local traditional media, as well as online dissemination tools including social media and websites, and offline dissemination of printed materials.
“From Green to Greener” was a youth exchange under the frame of Erasmus+, Key Action 1 – youth mobility. The project was a wake-up alarm for the unhealthy lifestyles (junk food, sedentary, consumerism) and unsustainable tendency, meant to provide green tools for dealing with environmental issues, such as pollution, garbage, waste. 25 participants from 5 European countries gathered in Bitola (Dihovo, Macedonia), focused on non-formal education in the context of environmental education with a combination of different activities and methods. Young persons with the age between 16 and 30 were involved in group activities, opening discussions and creative workshops, including outdoor activities and visits, in order to gain knowledge and abilities in sharing or expressing their views, experiences and opinions related to the project’s theme, and also to connect with nature and its resources for a greener future. Activities were done in a pleasant and interactive atmosphere, where at some points hammers or garbage were working materials. Debates, role games and teamwork were combined through practical sessions like gardening, Recycling, bird house building and others.
Project “Conundrum of Exclusion – Training Course on preventing radicalization of young people”, organised by Serbian NGO Centar za razvojnu politiku i saradnju, were implemented in two stages (Training Courses)
First TC will be from 30/03/2016 – 06/04/2016 and
Second one from 05/06/2016 – 12/06/2016
The main aim of this project was to address one of the most pressing concerns of European societies – the problem of youth radicalization. Young people, often affected by unemployment and other negative consequences of the economic crisis, were becoming increasingly susceptible to radicalization (both online and as a result of peer pressure). On the other hand, the rise of radical terrorists and religious extremists leads to increased social tensions between different groups within societies, with representatives of minorities often wrongly blamed and stygmatised by the representatives of majorities. These problems are visible not only in Western Europe (Belgium, France, the UK) but also in the Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia). All of this is taking place within the context of increased introversion among public. People seem to be interested only in their own affairs, separating themselves from others with “walls of indifference”. In our project, we wanted to address these challenges by deconstructing the existing problems, promoting educational solutions and fostering strategic cooperation between youth organizations and public authorities. Through two eight-day training courses hosted in Serbia, we planned to train 64 participants (32 per course) in how to tackle the problem of youth radicalization
After the shocking terroristic attack of religious origin at the “Charlie Hebdo”‘s newspaper and the ongoing immigration flows, Europe got involved in a reflection about its inclusion and integration policies and about its relationship with a community are based on a religious belief and that legitimate with religion its violent actions. The project “God with us? Religious Identities and Youth Participation” wanted to forward an analysis and a reflection about the role of religion in the contemporary society. The young participants discussed the original motivation of their social engagement and their active participation in the society, reflected on the founding values of the European Community today. The project focused on these themes: religious identity, interreligious and intercultural dialogue, relationship between religion and laically reason, responsible participation, active citizenship, conflict management, social inclusion. The partnership for this project included 8 social organizations from Italy, France, Hungary, Macedonia, Ukraine, Romania and Georgia.
The idea of this conference was to help strengthen the role of civil society in combating and preventing crime, to promote cooperation between public institutions and civil society organizations, as well as to stimulate the processes of active democratic participation. The conferences part of the “Waves of legality, waves of citizenship”, was funded by the program “Europe for Citizens” part from the European Commission. The project aimed to help and strengthen the role of civil society in combating and preventing crime, to promote cooperation between public institutions and civil society organizations as well as to stimulate the processes of active democratic participation.
The aim of the “Words Shape Identity” project (KA1, Mobility of Youth Workers) was to raise awareness about an inclusive LGBT terminology and its wider implementation in practical youth work. The aim was achieved using diverse methods of non-formal education, primarily creative writing. 22 youth workers from 11 different countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey) met for a 7-day training course in Ljubljana, Slovenia. They discussed different situations in LGBT communities and inclusive LGBT terminology in a safe and creative environment, where everyone was motivated to express themselves, their role in local, regional, national and European context in creating safe spaces for LGBT youth with inclusive language. The added value of the project was a web page with blogs from the participants in which they shared their knowledge and experience gained during the training course and share it with other youth workers. The latter encouraged others to contribute their own blogs for the mentioned web page, therefore spreading the knowledge and experience even after the project’s completion.
SFERA Macedonia hosted EVS Volunteer from Sumy, Ukraine for 3 months in Bitola. Ukraine was part of Soviet Union and its double language country so the volunteer showed interest to make Russian Course lessons two times in week per 1 Hour. The interest was big especially from the students in high schools because learning more languages is a cultural treasure. The students were satisfied because they learned something new outside English because in Macedonia Russian courses can only be learned in University. Afterwards the volunteer has made a photography exhibition in the Home of Culture in Bitola with photograph’s taken in specific places in Bitola.
- Training course “Beyond the form” to success” addressed the present need throughout whole Europe for competent young leaders and facilitators in civil society who are able to run educational activities for youth based on the values of the European Union and the Council of Europe, through usage of non-formal approach that has proven utmost flexibility beyond the borders of social classes, gender, nationalities and mentalities. TC sought to enable participants to explore and actually understand the concept and factors behind non-formal learning, and thus to competently design, facilitate and debrief existing and novel non-formal learning sessions and opportunities. Furthermore, in order to ensure sustainability, this TC wanted to provide the participants with a coached and structured opportunity to elaborate a professional and personal development plan based on competencies and values
The Project was about Addiction. One of the worst problems for the youth is Addiction. There are different types of addictions in the world and each of them is growing day by day with worse results. For example, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, internet addiction etc. We can find out more and more addiction types. In our project, we wanted to raise awareness in society towards addiction and prove that the youth will play an important role to solve that problem. First of all, we wanted to find out the reasons of addiction and to find the ways to get rid of addiction. Besides, we were working on the roles of the society members to solve the problem. We organized workshops, lectures, group-works, pair-works and social activities to find solutions to stop and prevent addiction.
