On 18th of March SFERA Macedonia held a NGO Fair for all of the Bitola region to come, learn, sign up, and have some fun! There were a total of 14 organizations: SFERA MACEDONIA, YMCA Bitola, Golden Pen Bitola, Together Macedonia, Forum 16, Red Cross Bitola, ECOVast, NGO NOVA, Association Doser Global Bitola, MKC Bitola, CERI, Molika, Macedonian Handicrafts Association, International Slavic University Bitola – student body, that showed up and showed us some of the amazing things they are doing. During the event we had Blaze Josifofski, the president of NGO Ajde Makedonija, a successful NGO located in Skopje, come and speak about the importance of the NGO sector, volunteering, and getting involved in your community!
We also conducted a survey along with our project, asking youth of Bitola what they think of volunteering, civic engagement and the NGO sector. We were able to get 200 responses. Some results were that half said they are involved in their community in some way. 38% said that they volunteer in the community, with many saying volunteering is a good thing for the community. We did learn that the majority of youth people are unaware of local programs to get involved so we will be looking forward to promoting more. The survey gave us a good starting point on how to get youth involved!
We had around 120 people registered for the event and more who came in to look around. If you are interested in getting involved in the future or want to know more about events like this – contact us through Facebook at SFERA Macedonia or through Instagram @sferamacedonia!
